Programme Descritpion
The Diploma in Electrical Engineering is a two-year programme. It is learner-centered and competence-based and emphasizes practical teaching and acquisition of skills by the learner. The programme is up-to-date with the current market demands and is aimed at producing graduates who are relevant to the industry and world of work.
Programme Rationale
Uganda has a big skilled manpower gap because its education system has for long emphasised the theoretical subjects which forces it to rely greatly on expatriates who are very expensive. This gap needs to be filled up if Uganda is to match with the current trend of technological advancement and development. It’s upon this need that Gi-IIT started a diploma in Electrical Engineering to increase the number of skilled Ugandans and help the government to reduce its expenditure on expatriates. The programme is designed to provide students with relevant knowledge and practical skills that will enable them become competent electrical engineers and be employed in such fields like central government departments and ministries computer, electronics and office machinery supply and repair companies electricity companies, Telecom companies as contractors, consultants among others.
Programme Objectives
This course aims at:
i) Introducing the students to electrical installation
ii) Promote safety of workers and plants
iii) Repair and maintain electrical appliances and equipment
iv) Estimate and cost materials, equipment and labour
v) Prepare report , budget and plans
vi) Install a solar PV system and fabricate a complete voltage regulator
